Peter and Paul fortress.

Peter and Paul fortress

It’s the oldest part of the city, the place where the city was started. The fortress is situated on a separate island so called Hare Island. The main attraction of the fortress is
  • Peter and Paul Cathedral
  • which is a burial place of the Romanov family. All famous Russian Tsars since Peter the Great up to Nicolas the Second were buried here.

During the tour I will give you a lot of information about history of the city, as well as many stories and interesting legends about the greatest tsar in Russia – Peter the Great. But no doubts the most exciting part of this tour it’s the history of the Romanov family (the Cathedral). I will tell you who was who, who was after whom and who was killed by whom. Peter and Paul cathedral it’s a place where you will see a grave of a father who killed his own son, a grave of a wife who killed here own husband and a grave of a son who killed his own father. It was a lovely family and its history sounds like a detective story!

Beside of the cathedral on the territory of the fortress you also can see:
  • Monument to Peter the Great
  • Neva (or Death) Gates
  • Political Prison which was turned into the museum
  • Some temporary exhibitions

  • The prolongation of the tour is between 30-40 min and 2 hours. The short version (only the Cathedral) could be a part or a general City Tour.
More information about this museum you can find here.

NB! It’s very important to come to the Cathedral with a guide who can tell you the history another way you will see just tombstones which are not so interesting by itself!
